How to Swap Tokens

You can trade tokens directly within the wallet, whether on the same chain or across different networks via a cross-chain swap.

  1. Tap Swap on the Home screen.
  2. Select the token you want to swap (From) and the token you want to receive (To).
  3. Enter the amount. The routing engine will automatically find the best available rate, considering both same-chain and cross-chain routes.
  4. Review the expected output, provider fees, network gas, and price impact.
  5. Confirm and sign the transaction.

Understanding Price Impact and Slippage Warnings

When you review a swap in step 4, you may see a price impact figure or a high slippage warning. Here is what these mean and what you can do.

Price impact is the estimated effect your swap will have on the token's market price. It is determined by the size of your swap relative to the available liquidity in the pool. A small swap on a liquid pair (e.g., ADA to USDC) will have a very low price impact. A large swap on a less liquid or newer token can move the price significantly, meaning you receive less than the quoted rate.

A high slippage warning appears when the difference between the price quoted at the time you initiate the swap and the price at which it is likely to execute is above a threshold. This can occur because:

  • The token pair has low liquidity
  • You are swapping a large amount relative to the available pool
  • Market conditions are volatile and prices are moving quickly

What to do if you see a high slippage warning:

  • Reduce the swap amount and split it into smaller transactions
  • Wait for market conditions to stabilise before retrying
  • Consider whether the quoted rate is still acceptable to you before confirming

SecondFi's routing engine automatically finds the best available rate across supported liquidity sources. However, it cannot guarantee execution at the quoted rate for illiquid token pairs or during periods of high volatility. Always review the final output amount carefully before confirming.
